The Heart Can Do Anything

February is a wonderful month.  Many of my dearest [older] friends had birthdays in February.  With the wisdom and grace of advanced years, they lived and loved with abandon, never counted costs, and never expected anything in return.  What a wonderful way to live.  One of my favorite presidents, Abraham Lincoln, also had a birthday in February (12th).

February is also 'home' to a special holiday: Valentine's Day.  More than being just about hearts and flowers, it is also a day to reflect - with thanksgiving - not only upon the gifts of love and compassion shared from others, but gifts of love and compassion we may give back.

The title of this month's blog heralds a theme that may well be worth catching...and sharing.  No doubt, it is with the heart that we understand and internalize the stuff of life.  Quoting the famous French WWII fighter pilot and author, Antoine de Saint Exupery from his book, The Little Prince: On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux (which, being translated means: "One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye.")

Helen Keller, that incredibly inspirational American who epitomized the word "try" in the face of many trials, once affirmed: "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.

In this beautiful season of love and thanksgiving, why not take some time to sincerely express as much to someone whose life is special to you, someone who has done something special for you that really touched your heart.  Like you, I owe a huge debt of gratitude to others who've helped me along the road of life, who not only affirmed but modeled the fact that 'the heart can do anything.'  They continue to offer words of advice, encouragement, faith, hope, and love...the kind that comes straight from the heart.  Happy Valentine's Day.
